Moby Dyke by Krista Burton—A Guide to the Remaining Lesbian Bars in America

Where do I start?…Except to say, I love this book!! I’ve been sad for days since I’ve finished Moby Dyke. I wish there were a million more pages to read.

Krista Burton does a great job taking you bar by bar, explaining in great detail her experiences at each place. As a person with social anxiety, it was nice seeing someone else explain her process and the struggles she went through as she visited each bar.

I’ve never read a book that was so human. You felt like you knew her by the end of the book and could relate to her on a deeper level. If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, this is the book for you. However, it’s not sad, she talks to you in a way that you would talk to your friends and share who you are with them.

I felt like I got to visit each bar, and I can now imagine what each experience is like. There are wonderful drinks, food, and people that you get to experience. I’ve learned quite a bit from this book and hope she writes more on this topic.

I doubt Krista will ever read this, but I want to thank you for this book. I felt understood, learned about different things, and my week reading your book was wonderful. Thank you for your time, effort, resources, and the vulnerability you shared.

Since I finished this book, I haven’t been able to stop talking about it with my partner. I looked forward to it each day. The last day, I couldn’t put it down and sacrificed on some sleep so that I could read every last word.

If you are curious about lesbian bars, just coming out, or have been going to lesbian bars for a while, this is the book for you!
